Prepare to be swept into a breathtaking scenery with shimmering resonance and transcendent beauty. As 50 harpists from around Toronto and beyond unite on one stage, it showcases the harp’s ability to bridge cultures and centuries.

Audiences will embark on a musical journey that travels from the poetic landscapes of Italy and France to the rhythmic energy of Argentina and the serene lyricism of Japan.
Reflecting the diversity of the harp’s global heritage — this ancient instrument continues to evolve through the languages, stories, and harmonies of the world.
This charming afternoon concert culminates in the performance of “As the Swallow Flies”, a new work written for the occasion by Canadian musicians –-- harpist Sunshine Quan and composer Matthew James Van Driel.
Inspired by the Newfoundland folk song “She is like a Swallow”, the piece celebrates the multicultural spirit of Canada, weaving together Indigenous, European, and Asian musical influences to symbolize harmony within diversity. This premiere will feature all 50 harps performing together — a grandiose and deeply moving moment that represents the festival’s 2026 mission:
