5000 years of harp history
The harp is the oldest string instrument depicted in ancient Egyptian wall carvings and mentioned in ancient literature, such as the Bible, where King David played it, and in Greek mythology, where Orpheus and the god of Apollo were its players. Harps in different forms appear in all cultures around the world. Originally derived from the hunter's bow, early harps had only a few strings. In Christmas ornaments, the harp is often seen as a small, U-shaped instrument held by angels, representing an ancient form of the harp.
